Given that the temperature in D.C. dipped to 5 degrees last night - that's FIVE degrees, people; a single digit - Miami seems like a distant memory.
Nonetheless, I have a few more pictures of the Mondrian to show you, so I'll make this long on visuals, short on words....

But that couldn't be farther from Marcel Wanders' design for the Mondrian hotel in South Beach. You saw the white-on-white lobby in my last post - remember the overscale columns and the black staircase? Nary a grid nor a primary color in sight.
Apart from the fact that designing a hotel like a Mondrian painting* would be well, kind of dreadful, the designer gives us the Dutch connection - and a wink and a nod - in another way....
There's so much to say that I'll have to do this in several posts, but let me start first by talking about the DESIGN of the Mondrian hotel in South Beach, Miami. Creator: the products and interiors designer, Marcel Wanders.
In short, it's wacky. In a good way. Fresh, crazy, perspective-defying, and yes, a little bit indulgent, but it totally works, so who cares?...
I know: it seems like we were just ON vacation, right? Or at least on "winter break;" it sure doesn't feel like vacation when you have small children and they don't have school....
So just for fun, I dug through the bossy color blog archives to see what posts might bear repeating. Here's one. I hope you enjoy it....
When we first moved into this house, our twin daughters were 6 months old.
(They're fraternal, not identical, but they go through stages of looking very, very similar. Age 6 months was one of those times; try as I might, I have no idea who this kid is.)
We decided to keep the girls in the same room as long as we could - heck, they shared a CRIB for several months when they were first born, so sharing a room was a no-brainer....
I love small businesses. I mean, I know I am one, so that makes sense, but when a professional photographer and a letterpress owner /graphic designer said they needed a bossy basic for a new meeting space, I jumped at it.
They each have their own offices, but they decided to go in on a nice room in a central location where they could meet with clients. This is the room before. Not huge....
Well, well, well. A new attitude for a new year: I, bossy color the open-minded, am heartily endorsing a piece of Pottery Barn furniture.
You know that my relationship with Pottery Barn has been a tortured one, reaching its nadir with the arrival of a certain "Thanksgiving" Pottery Barn catalog. I shudder just thinking about that....
