Gillian Klein’s work caught my eye at an art show in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square a while ago. (I’d misplaced her card, and thrillingly, it just resurfaced.) She paints moody, steamy streetscapes in both muted and vivid palettes. This is “Flatiron District:”

The longer you stand in front of one of these pictures, the more you get out of it. That’s what good art should do for you.
The real reason I’m posting is because Ms. Klein also offers giclee reproductions of certain of her pieces. They’re EXTREMELY affordable – less than $100 – and available in several sizes for your framing convenience. Here’s a repro of “Yellow Umbrella:”
And a repro of “Crossing the Median:”
Of course, you lose depth in a reproduction, and you can’t see how the artist has built up the layers of paint. I’m also not a fan of tinkering with painting sizes: the artist chooses a certain size canvas for a reason.
But you know what? Buying a well-done reproduction is better – much better – than buying no art at all.
