A fellow blogger, Michele of My Notting Hill, asked if I’d weigh in on her recent post about trim color. Well, Michele, thanks for asking :) She changed the baseboard in her own living room from the standard off-white to the wall color – in this case, Benjamin Moore’s Beacon Hill Damask.

In general, I agree that painting the trim color the same as the walls looks cleaner and more modern than the traditional off-white. When I do this – and clients are requesting it more often – I usually paint the trim semi-gloss and the walls flat or eggshell, so there is still some distinction between the walls and trim.
In your case, I think the same-color baseboard works well with your soft modern look (above photo), so I’d go ahead and paint the crown moulding and window trim, also. I would keep the fireplace trim different to set it off. In fact, I think your fireplace would benefit from a broader surround and defined mantle – possibly rough stone with wood mantle, not a gleaming slab of polished granite.
I hope this is helpful, Michele. Happy blogging!
