We were delighted to participate in this year’s “Light Up the Season” holiday decorating project to benefit Children’s Hospital!

Interior designers were paired up with a patient (or in our case, two!) to design a tree, mantel, or wreath together.
Fellow Bossette Christy and I met with our partners, the lovely Leilah and Ava at Children’s last month…

…and earlier this week, we assembled the projects at the Four Seasons hotel in Georgetown.

Leilah and Ava said that their favorite thing about the holidays is spending time with their family. Their siblings live across the country, and they love the times when they can be together, playing games, baking, and hanging out. I thought that was pretty refreshing in these materialistic times. True holiday spirit!

Our tree was called, “A Colorful Family Christmas,” and it incorporated some of Leilah and Ava’s favorite things: the color teal (both girls’ favorite color — what are the odds?), game pieces, gingerbread men, and, our favorite, colorful houses. There also was a list of 12 special ornaments to look for, such as a unicorn (requested by the girls), a Nationals Jersey (same), a heart (you see where this is going…), a rainbow, etc.

The girls were SO thrilled with how the tree turned out, which made Christy and me very, very happy.

The opening celebration for designers and their young partners was last night. But this Sunday, December 3, from 1:00 – 4:00 is the main event. It’s a family holiday celebration, where kids can see all of the trees and wreaths, decorate cookies, and make holiday crafts. It will be a lot of fun. You can reserve tickets here, and remember: it’s for a great cause. Hope to see you there!
