I know, I know. There are modernists among us who feel about DWR the way some feel about Pottery Barn. Something about, “one-stop shopping makes it too easy for those with no real design sense to appear as though they have some, blah blah blah…”
What a nation of whiners. ;)
I understand why DWR can be the hipster store you love to hate, but on balance, I’m afraid I love it. And the Antica chair is a good reason why.
Yes, technically they’re dining room chairs. But they’re so comfortable that sometimes – in a small or transitional space – they’re living room chairs.
A lovely client of mine just bought three side/armless chairs in this rust color. When facing the kitchen island, they’re dining chairs! When you flip them around, they’re family room chairs! Magic!
When my husband and I lived in a condo, we bought two of the armchairs in black for our living room.
Believers in the American dream that we were (this was years ago) we had a feeling that our condo days were numbered, and that eventually these chairs would be joined by others, in a dining room setting.
1. They’re super comfortable. (If your dinner party is less than 3 hours long, your chairs stink. Or you ran out of wine. Either way, an avoidable tragedy.)
2. They’re child-resistant. The shiny leather wipes off with a wet paper towel.
3. The style works in traditional or contemporary settings.
