Moseying around Chapel Hill in search of a WiFi coffee shop, I came across a place on the main drag called Sugarland.
It might surprise you to learn that they serve primarily sweets. What I appreciated about Sugarland, though, is that the walls are not the usual pink or yellow, but robin’s egg blue. (Possibly the lightest version of “Carolina Blue,” but I’m out of my depth on that subject.) With the dark wood vitrines and blue and green tartan curtains, it really was quite dear without being, too, ah, sweet.
There were two things I’d do differently. I’d paint the ceiling silver to look like pressed tin (which it may have been, at one point), and I’d make the tables marble instead of the ubiquitous Uba Tuba granite. All in all, though, a very nice place to have a croissant and post a blog entry.
