Rachel Perls, you are a genius.
Or you’re just extremely lucky in your web surfing, but I prefer to think of you as a genius :)
Behold. Rachel found the source photo for my aspirational living room:

The room is by MMR Interiors out of New Orleans. Going through her portfolio, I literally felt my pulse speed up. I absolutely love her color sense and resistance to matchy-matchiness. This particular room is fresh and elegant, don’t you think?
Which is why it’s worth emulating as closely as possible.
Which is why, after much, much deliberation, I rolled up the yellow and white LR rug and am sending it back. It was damaged, so I would have had to replace it anyway, but I think I sensed after a week or so that this particular rug just wasn’t going to work. I really think it needs some blue.
Let me tell you, what made part of this decision so tough was that so many of you chimed in with your words of support! Your confidence that the rug would work in the end! Including and especially Maria Killam of Colour Me Happy, whom I admire on so many levels.
But ultimately, since my own house IS the place for experimentation (sorry, husband and children…and guests…), I’m going to keep searching for the right rug. If I had $10k to burn, this would be no problem. It’s just a little more challenging to do it for, say, $1-3k. But I’ll try.
Rather, I will not try, I will succeed. How’s that for confidence?
Here are some new frontrunners.
Savafieh’s Soho rug:
Which I will not buy through RugsUSA.com, because their nonexistent customer service in the past 2 months has been inexcusable. (Your big fat loss, RugsUSA. I’m not even linking to you.)
From French Accents Rugs & Tapestries:

Don’t get too attached to this Feizy Qing from Rugman, since it’s a little pricey, but to illustrate the point…
And finally, a Spanish rug from a source since misplaced:

See what I mean? I think the blue is important.
But hey, I’ve been wrong before. In my own house, that is.
