This is why bossy blog readers rock.
You knew I’d want to see pictures of the bathroom in the hotel you stayed in on your potentially-inadvisable-because-you-have-2-small-children-but-ok-in-the-end road trip to see your relatives in the Middle West.
This is exactly the kind of stuff I dig. (The bathroom, not the road trip.)
The Gentle Reader in question pulled up to this Hilton hotel in Akron, Ohio, expecting a clean room and that’s it. Maybe there’d be a pool, maybe Wi-Fi, maybe a cold beer…her expectations were reasonable.

When they made it up to their room and pulled open the door of the bathroom, she could not believe it.
C’mon, this is fancy. Actual cattails in a wooden planter? Well-designed cherry shelving between the vanity and the shower? Cool lighting built into the mirror? Unexpected.
There was grasscloth on the walls…well, imitation grasscloth, but this is commercial use, after all. And 3 different types of tile: 12 x 12 ceramic (or porcelain) on the walls, stone mini-mosaic on the shower floor, and what appears to be 6 x 12 ceramic (or porcelain) on the floor. Not too shabby.
So, Akron, it’s not enough to be the “Rubber Capital of the World,” you have to have fancy-pants bathrooms in your hotels, too?
Well, now you’re just showing off.
Thanks so much to Nicole for these pictures! I got such a kick out of this – I hope other Gentle Readers will follow suit and send me your interesting/bizarre/surprising interior design related summer vacation pictures…such fun!
