I was sitting here watching American Idol and toying w/ my floor plan for the Design House, and there was a particularly action-packed ad for an upcoming movie called Push. Something about this actor getting hurled into a red and green wall reminded me…
I forgot to post about Miss Yip Chinese Cafe in Miami Beach.
I don’t think there’s an actual connection, the red and green movie set looked familiar…
We’d read a good review of Miss Yip, and it’s located right off Lincoln Road, not far from our hotel.
The main dining room is quite large, but the designer made it more intimate by dividing the space horizontally with different colors and materials. Red leather banquette, then mirror, then red and green wallpaper. The ceiling was painted black to make it appear lower.
The columns also are divided, with green subway tiles installed horizontally on the bottom, and red subway tile is installed vertically above.
The smaller back room has the same color pattern. How fabulous are the Chinese checkerboards as art?
Miss Yip is a funky blend of playful design and kitsch. Add excellent food to the mix, and it’s a great place for a date.
