One day last spring, I was at Timothy Paul’s on 14th Street scouting out rugs and accessories for a favorite client.
I turned around, and there it was: the fabric of my dreams. It’s called Birds, and it’s hand blocked in Philadelphia by pattern geniuses Galbraith and Paul.
The snowy white heavy linen, the saturated colors, all of the subtle variations that let you know it’s handmade…I was powerless to resist.
Eight short months later (to be fair, I didn’t order the fabric until the summer), I’m the proud owner of a new headboard, expertly made by Roya Akbari using the Birds fabric in the Lake colorway. (The Pink is shown at the bottom of this post.)
I know, I know, the bedding isn’t right. I may try white linen Euro shams with a few smaller pillows in front of them, nothing too elaborate. We happened to have this boring duvet cover, cream on one side, stark white on the other (oooh – edgy!), so that’s what I’m using for the time being. At least it’s a nice heavy cotton that my husband’s mom brought back from India. Don’t even start about the blue pillowcases…all I have in my own defense is that they’re clean.
When we move our white Flokati living room rug in here, the duvet color may need to be stronger. Yellow, maybe. In honor of Pantone’s color of the year.
And because, well, I already have a yellow duvet cover.
