Even when I remember to make New Year’s resolutions, I NEVER remember to keep them. So this year, I thought I’d try a different approach: a wish list. Even in a bad economy, spending is still the American way. I see it as my patriotic duty.
1. That darn Eames aluminum chair I mentioned recently. For my office. In yellow. I’ve been talking about getting one forever…maybe this is the year.
2. Roman Shades and sofa slipcover for my daughters’ bedroom. They’re still sharing a room, so this is practically a twofer. (Right, husband darling? Right?)
3. This elegant little lamp from Timothy Paul. I saw it months ago and still think about it. I figure that’s a good sign.
4. A piece of art just because I love it – no thought to where it might go. That part always works itself out.
5. Upholstered walls for the freezing cold, water-damaged powder room. (Which is off the dining room. Ick.) I think I’ll make the shower vanish – I know: shower??? – and expose the tiny but south-facing window to let in some light.
6. A new living room rug after moving the current Flokati to our bedroom. Luckily our Flokati doesn’t shed as much as some people’s, but after picking Christmas tree needles out of it with tweezers for the second year running, I think it’s time to put this fluffy monster in a less-trafficky place. Don’t laugh, but I’m thinking of pairing Madeleine Weinrib‘s black-and-white Zig-Zag Rug with our acidic green drapes. (Remember: I take risks so my clients don’t have to.)
7. A backsplash from Mixed-Up Mosaics. This would accompany a kitchen renovation, but a girl can dream, can’t she?
I’ll stop there. Most lists go to 10, but I don’t want to seem greedy :)
