The second unexpected place I found art for sale was the gym!
St. Michaels, Maryland, has the nicest YMCA EVER. It’s so fancy. There’s a huge indoor pool and a massive weight room…best of all, it is a true community center. The place is buzzing.
Suffice it to say that I was NOT expecting to stumble upon this colorful, cheery picture of a duck when I was wandering around looking for Ruthie!

Coastal decor? Dangerously close. But you know what? If that’s your preferred style, embrace it via original art, not “Life’s A Beach” signs and lamps shaped like anchors.

This was by a different artist, and I quite liked it, too:

I think it’s important to support working artists, so when I see something I like in, say, the YMCA, I follow up. I’ve written Joan Voss about that cheeky Mallard…I’ll let you know what happens.
Does your gym sell art? Could it? Something to think about.
