Virginia: English garden pandemic project
This sunny room in Virginia was designed 100% virtually; the first time Annie saw it in person was on photography day! We started the project right at the beginning of the COVID pandemic, so floor plans, 3D drawings, and materials were sent back and forth to the clients, with all meetings taking place virtually. The project was featured on NBC4, and the photograph of the chest of drawers won an award.
The room itself was challenging: as the space between the living room and kitchen, it was more of a pass-through than a family room. The client, a landscape architect, wanted the room to feel more connected to the garden outside, a task made easier by the extra-tall windows.
The critical first step was getting rid of the client’s burgundy Oriental rug. There was no way we could have created a lighthearted room around it. Then we selected a crisp blue and white wallpaper to brighten the space and add cheer. Custom semi-sheer linen drapes provide coziness and controls the light while not blocking it. We created an intimate seating area at the fireplace end of the room and added pretty furniture to the other end, which did need to be left rather open for walking. The furniture is small scale but comfortable, and each piece is thoughtful and pretty. Most important, Henry the dog loves it!
Interior decorating services for this project included wallpaper selection, floor plans, 3D rendering, space planning and furniture selection, custom drapes, custom pillows, and vintage furniture.
Decorating resources for this Virginia project included Kravet, Scalamandré, Woodbridge, and vintage stores.
